The G-D Experience Parashat Mishpatim

This Shabbat we see a challanging verse in the Torah portion as the 73 Men were eating with Adonai and see him face to face. Somebody asked me earlier, how is it possible?

Actually this is making perfect sense that it would occur in this time. We get a real Remez in the words in verse 11:

יא וְאֶל-אֲצִילֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לֹא שָׁלַח יָדוֹ; וַיֶּחֱזוּ, אֶת-הָאֱלֹהִים, וַיֹּאכְלוּ, וַיִּשְׁתּוּ. {ס} 11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel He laid not His hand; and they beheld God, and did eat and drink. {S}

The key words here in the verse is “Atzilay B’enai Israel” and the term “Salach Yado”. The term S’halach Yad is talking clearly about “Killing them” as it is one of the strongest terms in the Hebrew language to take somebody life.

The real question here is why didn’t HaShem did it? what was the purpose?

The term “A’tzil” used to determine the “Carriers” of the Torah. HaShem wanted to make sure that we will get a single Torah, and by preserving their lives he MADE SURE that the message of the Torah is unified and consistent. We know that The “Atzilim” are the one who were the one who carried HasHem Rauch Hakodesh as it is written in B’amidbar 11:17:

יז וְיָרַדְתִּי, וְדִבַּרְתִּי עִמְּךָ שָׁם, וְאָצַלְתִּי מִן-הָרוּחַ אֲשֶׁר עָלֶיךָ, וְשַׂמְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶם; וְנָשְׂאוּ אִתְּךָ בְּמַשָּׂא הָעָם, וְלֹא-תִשָּׂא אַתָּה לְבַדֶּךָ. 17 And I will come down and speak with thee there; and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

Look at the word V’atzalti that comes from the word Atzil! G-D clearly states here what is the purpose of the 74 (including Moshe) elders! These men are ordained to be N’evihim over Israel, and G-D put his word within them as accounts to avoid of spreading foreign Torah, see as Parallel Jeremiah 1:9 as we see the same concept.

In summary: G-D writes his words on their hearts to insure that the Message of Matan Torah is sanctified, holy, and complete without a potential of people trying to write their own Torah as he is holy blessed be his name.

It said that they not only seen G-D, but also experienced G-D as the word of חזה means to experience HaShem, you see Jeremiah 31 coming to life even in the Torah as G-D writes his name on their hearts. I am a bit Jealous and pray that he will write his name on all of our hearts in the same manner. Through Yeshua it is possible!

Shabbat Shalom
